JuniorSTAR is designed to give skaters a chance to develop fundamental figure skating skills. It runs 10 weeks in the fall and winter, with some opportunities to skate in the spring and summer. It is designed to fit with Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) characteristics. The Kamloops Skate Club (KSC), is a Skate Canada affiliated club. JuniorSTAR has been designed as the first step of the STARSkate program. It is designed to fit with Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) characteristics. JuniorSTAR is for skaters who have progressed through Junior Academy and are making the transition to STARSkate. JuniorSTAR is designed to ease the transition to STARSkate, where skaters have more independent skill working time. JuniorSTAR’s will have 30 minutes of grouplesson time, and 30 minutes of independent skating time. JuniorSTAR is designed for skaters that want to progress their skills in a fun small group lesson format. Skaters will be working on their Star 1 level skills and may choose to be tested and compete in competitions at the Star 1 level. It runs for an hour at same time as Junior Academy three times per week, there is a 15 minute overlap with the STARSkaters, to get the girls used to sharing the ice with the older and more experienced skaters.
